I have never felt so proud to be a woman than when

I have never felt so proud to be a woman than when marching down the street with over 4,000 people in Brisbane protesting against violence and abuse against women in Australia. In four months, 32 women have died at the hands of men. This number has doubled from last year and we’re not even six months into 2024. The fact we have to march for our right to feel safe in a first world country is disgusting. The media coming for photo opps after giving rapists thousands of dollars is even more disgusting. As @chanelc said, if this was a religious or terrorist issue, the government would call a national emergency, but because it’s men harming us, the Prime Minister is simply calling another bullshit meeting and using our rally for media coverage. It’s abhorrent and disappointing to say the least. Yet, I still have hope from all the strong women fighting the good fight. I’ve never felt so grateful and so afraid to be a woman at the same time. Thank you to all the speakers for your moving words over the weekend, and for everything you’re doing for us, you’re truly incredible. To the men who attended rallies across Australia, especially the ones who brought their sons, thank you for showing up. A man holding a sign at a violence against women rally? What a fucking man indeed. 🙌 To the men who call out bad behaviour, who educate themselves and don’t constantly expect us to do it, who respect and support women and stand by us, thank you for giving us hope.
